Mathieu Challieres, a trained art historian and self-taught designer, worked in advertising for a long time before he began designing objects. Initially, he was looking for a form of expression that required virtually no capital investment and began designing luminaires made of plaster. The unusual light objects quickly found fans among interior designers and renowned houses such as Le Bon Marché in Paris. In 2006, Challieres created the Volières, a unique lighting object that has become an icon. Today, the Volières are distributed in around 30 countries and are handmade in the company's own studio in Belleville in Paris.
