The founders of Örsjö, Simon Jonsson, Sture Jonsson and Edvin Thorén, started in the 1940s with the production and sale of small metal parts and red paint for building facades and then in 1952 they started producing lamps for IKEA and brought their own designs on the market. In the mid-1980s a customer survey brought to light a desire for more innovative models. The project "Norrsken," a collaboration with the designer Jonas Bohlin, was launched. Well-known designers such as Mats Teselius, Claesson Koivisto Rune, and young students participated in the project. Örsjö has been working together with Matti Klenell since the beginning of the year 2000.
